Tyler Chase Smith was born on March 3, 1992 in Parrottsville, Tenn. He was an only child born to parents Brenda J. Smith and Charles Donald Smith. Despite being born with severe complications from pneumonia, Tyler had a relatively healthy childhood.
During
his time at Cosby Elementary in neighboring town Newport, Tenn., Tyler had
problems adjusting. He was picked on by several other students due to his
weight. The bullying continued even after his father passed away from lung
cancer, causing Tyler to lose weight from depression. He kept quiet for most of
high school and only socialized with a very select group of friends.
However,
he became more vocal around his junior year in high school. Part of this was
due to his knack for fiction writing inspired by such authors as Stephen King
and Clive Barker. He began writing a work of zombie apocalypse fiction entitled
The New Haven Chronicles, a series he
continues to work on today.
It was
his junior year when Tyler would discover the school’s student made news
program. He enrolled in the media course and quickly rose to producer of the
program. He became fascinated with the editing process and began a search for
better editing tools.
The
search would end when Tyler was accepted to Middle Tennessee State University.
He enrolled in the college of mass communications in hopes of finding a career
in television production. He remains at Middle Tennessee State and continues to
write on his series the New Haven
Chronicles, aspiring to get the first volume published. He is also working
on a collection of horror short stories entitled Whispers: A Collection.
Tyler
Chase Smith currently resides in Scarlett Commons apartments on campus as a
sophomore. He is a critic and conessuer of all things nerdy. He is a big fan of
reading, writing, horror films, indie and alternative music, videogames,
tabletop roleplaying games and virtually anything else that qualifies. He is
known by his friends for his wicked sense of humor and has done stand-up in the
Murfreesboro area. He is also the owner of the blog That One Nerdy Kid, posting
reviews, rants, and musings of his choice.
